Accessibility

Sydney University Press is committed to publishing books that are accessible to as wide an audience as possible. We have been working closely with the Australian Inclusive Publishing Initiative, the Royal Institute for Blind and Deaf Children and Infogrid Pacific to improve the accessibility of our books. We are committed to making accessibility a focal point of our workflows and book development. We are a signing member of the Accessible Books Consortium’s Charter for Accessible Publishing, which promotes the production of books in accessible formats. We are also a member of the Round Table on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities, an organisation established in 1981 with a mission to ‘facilitate and influence the production and use of quality alternative formats for people with print disabilities by optimising the evolving Round Table body of knowledge’.

We produce our ebooks in-house using a format-neutral layout system and we test them using the Ace by Daisy app. Our ePub3 files adhere to the EPUB Accessibility 1.0 Specification and conform to the level AA success criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 specifications.

If you require an alternative format (such as large print edition of a book or an edition using OpenDyslexic), please email sup.info@sydney.edu.au and we will assist you where possible.

We welcome your feedback on accessibility and usability of our books. To get in touch and for more information about our commitments to accessibility in publishing, please contact Jo Lyons.
